Rabi MSP 2027-28: Full List of Minimum Support Prices (Wheat ₹2,610)

Rabi MSP 2027-28 is the new set of minimum support prices that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved on 30 September 2026 for the six rabi crops that farmers are sowing this winter. Wheat rises by ₹25 to ₹2,610 per quintal, rapeseed and mustard by ₹413 to ₹6,613, gram by ₹83 to ₹5,958, and safflower by the largest amount, ₹675, to ₹7,215. This guide lists every price, compares it with last year, shows the government’s margin over cost, and explains what the numbers mean for your sowing decision.

These prices apply to the crop sown from October to December 2026 and bought by government agencies after harvest in the 2027-28 marketing season, which mainly means April to June 2027.

Quick answer: Rabi MSP 2027-28 per quintal: wheat ₹2,610, barley ₹2,286, gram ₹5,958, masur (lentil) ₹7,390, rapeseed and mustard ₹6,613 and safflower ₹7,215. Every crop gets an increase, ranging from about 1 percent for wheat to about 10 percent for safflower. The government says each price is at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.

Key takeaways

  • The Cabinet approved the rabi MSP for the 2027-28 marketing season on 30 September 2026, covering six crops.
  • Wheat gets the smallest rise, ₹25 or about 1 percent, while safflower gets the largest, ₹675 or about 10 percent.
  • Mustard (+₹413), lentil (+₹390) and barley (+₹136) rise more than wheat, which reflects the push for pulses and oilseeds.
  • The government reports margins over cost of 106 percent for wheat and 96 percent for rapeseed and mustard, but only 59 percent for gram and 50 percent for safflower.
  • MSP is a government purchase price, not a guarantee that every mandi trade will happen at that rate.

What “2027-28 marketing season” means

The marketing season is named after the year in which the government buys the crop, not the year in which you sow it. So the rabi MSP 2027-28 applies to wheat, mustard and other rabi crops sown in October to December 2026, harvested in March to April 2027, and bought from about April 2027. Last year’s list, the Rabi MSP 2026-27, applied to the crop that farmers harvested in spring 2026.

Margin over cost: how well each crop is covered

The government fixes MSP at no less than 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production, a commitment dating from the Union Budget 2018-19. The table shows the cost estimate and the margin the government reports for each crop.

Crop Cost of production (₹/quintal) MSP 2027-28 (₹/quintal) Reported margin over cost
Wheat 1,264 2,610 106%
Rapeseed and mustard 3,367 6,613 96%
Masur (lentil) 3,854 7,390 92%
Gram 3,751 5,958 59%
Barley 1,447 2,286 58%
Safflower 4,810 7,215 50%

These are weighted national averages, so your own cost can be higher or lower. The cost measure used by the government counts paid-out costs and the imputed value of family labour. It may not include every cost you pay, such as the full rent on leased land, so treat the margin as a guide and not as your profit.

What the rabi MSP 2027-28 means for sowing decisions

The 2026 monsoon ended at 87 percent of normal, and reservoirs in the south are low, so water is the first question for many farmers. The price signal from this year’s list favours crops that need less water and fetch more per quintal.

Crop What the price signal says Things to weigh
Wheat Small increase; the price is already well above cost Needs several irrigations; warm weather in February and March can hurt grain filling
Rapeseed and mustard Strong increase of ₹413 Needs less water than wheat; market prices often rise above MSP
Gram Modest increase Mostly rainfed; low water need; margin over cost is lower
Masur (lentil) Strong increase of ₹390 Suits residual moisture; check local procurement arrangements
Barley Good increase of ₹136 Hardy and uses less water than wheat; demand from feed and malting
Safflower Largest increase, ₹675 Grown in a limited area; check your state’s procurement plan

No crop is right for every field. Soil, irrigation, local procurement and your own cost matter more than any single national price. Ask your Krishi Vigyan Kendra or state agriculture department for a plan that suits your district. Use the crop calendar to check sowing windows, and the fertilizer calculator to plan nutrients.

How much could a lot earn at MSP?

The government buys only what falls within procurement limits and quality norms in your state, so do the arithmetic for the quantity you can really sell. As a worked example, 40 quintals of wheat at ₹2,610 comes to ₹1,04,400 before transport and other costs. Use the MSP calculator to try your own quantity and crop.

Rabi MSP vs the mandi price today

MSP is the price at which government agencies buy. Mandi prices move daily with arrivals and demand. On 21 October 2026, the median wheat price in the official feed was ₹2,550 per quintal, a little below the new wheat MSP of ₹2,610. That gap is not a loss, because the wheat now trading comes from the 2026 harvest and the new MSP applies to the 2027 crop. See live rates on Mandi Bhav Today and the analysis in wheat rate today.

How MSP purchase works in practice

  1. Register. Most states require farmers to register before procurement opens. Watch for your state’s notice in early 2027.
  2. Prepare the crop. Dry, clean grain that meets the quality norms avoids deductions or rejection.
  3. Bring it to the centre. Use the token or slot system where your state has one.
  4. Receive payment. Payment normally goes to your bank account by direct transfer.
  5. Keep records. Save the weighment slip, gate pass and bank statement.

Common mistakes about the rabi MSP 2027-28

  • Reading the margin over cost as personal profit.
