According to Cricket West Indies president Ricky Skerritt, captain Kieron Pollard and coach Phil Simmons have repeatedly come under criticism from some critics in the Caribbean who want their resignation unrelated to the game of cricket. But Ricky Skerritt has stated that he is prepared to deal with the matter immediately and is convinced that there is no reason for Pollard and Simmons to resign. The statement was made by CWI president Skerritt ahead of the West Indies team’s visit to India to take part in a six-match white-ball series. 

In an interview with a local TV station, Skerritt said that the Carribean people like to crack down on people without justification, so Pollard and Simmons also took the hit from critics. In addition, the management of the West Indies team has already been under attack for some time because of its poor performance at the Twenty20 World Cup in the UAE. There the team failed to get to the knockout stage. Skerritt promised that he would definitely deal with the situation, which concerns Pollard and Simmons, but also the president of Cricket West Indies is convinced that there is no reason to make a replacement coach and captain. 

All of the rumors related to Pollard and Simmons started with the local media making unsubstantiated claims that there was a split on the senior men’s team in the West Indies, but CWI refutes all of that, saying that there was and is no disagreement within the West Indies team.  

CWI head Ricky Skerritt himself is convinced that this is nothing more than a conspiracy by critics against Pollard and Simmons to undermine their credibility with the West Indies team. Recall that Ricky Skerritt has been president of the CWI since 2019. Despite this, however, he is ruling out the possibility of running for a second term and will not seek a third. He himself states that there is a limit to everything and the CWI president’s term of office should also be of some duration. Skerritt believes that the head of CWI should give himself fully to his position and do his best, and then leave office so that the next candidate can show his leadership qualities and make some contribution to the profession. 

As a reminder, the CWI president is elected for two years and the next presidential election is next year. Skerritt himself hopes that Vice President Kishore Shallow will take his place.
